Every Legend mentors two first-timers per year. It is the law. It has never once been skipped, and it has been skipped exactly once, by a legend who was at sea, which counts as excused.

Mentorship takes the form of a long walk, a shorter lecture, and a demonstration of the one knot the first-timer keeps getting wrong. The demonstration is always in slow motion. The knot is always a figure-eight.
